We are yet again being linked with a defensive signing this summer, with the Metro claiming Arsene Wenger is keen on Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani.
We have been linked with the Italian defender in the past (via the Mirror), and Wenger is known to be a fan. It’s strange that these rumours have emerged now however, as the Frenchman has only recently confirmed that we won’t be in the market for a centre-back this summer.
“Four [centre-backs] is enough,” Wenger said, as reported by Sky Sports.
“[Mathieu] Debuchy can play there, [Nacho] Monreal can play there, so you can say we are not out to buy a central defender.”
The Metro claims we are planning a £10m bid for the youngster, and go on to say that Juventus may be tempted by the offer.

The 20-year-old would be a solid acquisition, and he has impressed during his time on loan at Empoli. With Calum Chambers likely to be moulded into a centre-back eventually, and Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny, and Gabriel Paulista looking solid at the back however, it’s difficult to see where Rugani would fit in.
We should be prioritising a goalkeeper, a defensive midfielder, and a forward player this summer – another centre back is the least of our concerns.
