Arsene Wenger is known to being vague when it comes to transfer activity, but the same excuses always seem to reappear for the lack of acquisitions.
When the Gunners were struggling for form and loosing to the likes of Bradford City, Swansea and Norwich Wenger had admitted they will look to reinforce his squad in January however now they have managed to beat a host of struggling sides his tone has reverted back to his usual ways.
The Frenchman reportedly said:
We are in the market, but only if we find players who will really strengthen us because we have a good squad. But if we find an exceptional player then we will take him.
It seems January may in fact not be as busy as many Gooners would’ve hoped for especially now that Huntelaar and Ba have ruled out moves away from their respective clubs, while the David Villa move is unlikely as Squillaci finding another club this winter and Theirry Henry looks like he may not make a temporary move after all.
The two likely candidates are Spaniard’s Adrian Lopez and Fernando Llorente however both have struggled for game time this season and whether Wenger categorizes the duo in the ‘exceptional’ category is another question to be answered.
But as the winter window approaches, one name that will remain in Arsenal colours (for now) is striker Marouane Chamakh as he has been omitted from Morocco’s 24-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

QPR star midfielder Adel Taarabt has also been cut, with the report from goal.com failing to specify reasons for the duo’s snub. Chamakh has struggled for game time for the Gunners, with no Premier League minutes under his belt this season, so naturally that has put his place in his national side in jeopardy.
This is positive news for the Gunners as the striker will be around to complete his rumoured to move to West Ham, hopefully something eventuates there.
