We’re apparently still in the hunt for another midfielder, with N’Golo Kante our top target. Chelsea are also looking to sign the Frenchman, but we’re the ones leading the race for his signature, according to Le Parisien.
Having only just signed Granit Xhaka (via Arsenal.com), it seems unlikely that Arsene Wenger would be in the market for another midfielder. Kante was absolutely phenomenal this season though, and with his £20m release clause (via Le Parisien) it may be too good of a deal to pass up.
It looks as though we’re set for a busy summer at Arsenal, with the fans hoping to see plenty of new arrivals. Xhaka will hopefully be the first of many, although Wenger will want to avoid upsetting the equilibrium of the club by bringing too many new faces into the Emirates.
We’re set to see several experienced players leave the club though, so at least a handful of signings are required. Kante was a large part of the reason Leicester enjoyed such success this past season, with the defensive midfielder providing a superb platform to build from. He’s arguably not what we need though, as we already have a number of options in midfield.
With Xhaka’s arrival, we now have Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Granit Xhaka, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, and Aaron Ramsey all able to play in midfield. We also have the likes of Calum Chambers and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who can perform there in a pinch, although it’s obviously not ideal.

In any normal team that would be overkill, although with our injury history we could still experience a shortage midway through the campaign. The problem is, if we don’t experience our usual glut of injuries then it’s hard for Wenger to give everyone game time, and this will certainly be on his mind.
Arsenal transfer news
Arsenal fans certainly wouldn’t complain if Kante were to join the club this summer, but unless Wenger plans on offloading one of our other midfielders then it’s hard to see it happening.
