In one of the stranger – but unfortunately more believable – rumours, we’re being linked with a move for former academy product Havard Nordveit ahead of the summer transfer window opening, as reported by German publication Bild.
The ex-Arsenal star left the club in 2011, and has gone from strength to strength ever since. He’s been performing superbly for Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach, so much so that he’s attracting attention from a number of Premier League sides.
The report suggests we’re facing competition from local rivals Tottenham Hotspur, although claims we’re leading the race for his signature due to our prior connection with the player.
Gladbach are apparently desperate to keep him at the club and sign him to a new long-term deal, but with his current contract expiring this summer (via Bild), he’s already free to discuss terms ahead of a move at the end of the season.
This does sound like a typical Arsene Wenger signing; a free, talented midfielder who is already trained in the Arsenal style. He’s not likely to prove a game changer though, and unless he turns out to be a huge success Arsenal fans would be furious with Wenger for cheaping out again.

We badly need to make signings this summer, but Nordveit is unlikely to prove the player we need. He’s a solid midfielder, but is he Arsenal quality?
