Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour has expressed his belief that Arsenal can win the Premier League this season, claiming that they just need to remain in the hunt until the tail end of the campaign (via Sky Sports). The Gunners tend to fall off the pace sometime in April, losing crucial ground to title rivals during the last few weeks. However, Parlour believes that if the team can pace themselves properly, then Wenger will finally be able to end his long league drought.
Speaking to Sky, he said: “I think the most important thing for Arsenal is being involved around March or April time to be in with a chance of winning it. Over the last few seasons they’ve seemed to drop off.
“It was a huge game against Manchester United, bouncing back from Olympiakos, they had to get a result and start quickly. Theo Walcott is playing well at the moment up front, and he’s got competition from Olivier Giroud, who scored for France in midweek.
“So everything is going well for Arsene [Wenger] at the moment but the key is keeping players fit, (if they do) I think they’ll have a good chance this year.”
While the Manchester United victory was certainly sorely needed and a joy to watch, we should not be planning too optimistically; it was still just a single result. Today’s game against Watford is the next match that the team will play together following the international break, and only then can we get a clearer picture of whether the quality of performances have really gone up. The upcoming Bayern Munich game is also a massive test, since maintaining our campaign in Europe is essential to being seen as a top tier side.
Parlour also spoke about the in-form Alexis Sanchez, saying “He is in great scoring form at the moment, with his hat-trick against Leicester and the goals against Manchester United, and he’s carried that on (for Chile). He’s such a key player for Arsenal, the way he plays with his energy and the goals he’s scoring from the left-hand side. He’s huge for them.

“He had a slow start, but he’s really improved in the last few weeks and he’ll want to play every game.
“It’s [tomorrow’s game] going to be tough, Watford are very resilient and tough to beat. They’ll be sitting off Arsenal and letting them have a lot of possession, then probably try and nick a goal via a set play.
“They are pretty good against the bigger sides this season, but it’s away from home where you’ve got to be a bit tougher at times and stick in there. But I expect them [Arsenal] to get all three points.”
The Chilean superstar scored six goals for Arsenal in the previous matchweek, before going off to play for Chile and netting three more. He certainly seems eager to make up for his dry spell at the start of the season, and hopefully he continues to churn out the goals over the next few weeks. Watford will be tricky opposition certainly, but provided we can find the magic once more, Arsenal have more than enough quality to see off the Hornets.
