Arsene Wenger has come in for some serious criticism recently, with his failures in the transfer market compounded by a number of disappointing losses this season. Club legend David Seaman has called for the fans to support the manager though, and has given his backing to the Frenchman as well, as reported by Goal.
The 65-year-old has been dividing opinion among Arsenal fans for years, with our lengthy trophy drought causing many to question whether he was the right man for the job.
Things haven’t changed much despite consecutive FA Cup trophy wins, and a number of supporters are still calling for his head.
Seaman has asked for further patience though, and claims he will always be a supporter of Wenger.
“The fans are split at the moment,” Seaman told Omnisport (via Goal). “A lot of them want Arsene out, I know that because they tell me.
“But what I say is be careful what you wish for because look what happened to Manchester United.

“It’s not always greener on the other side, and I will always be an Arsene Wenger fan because I have worked with him and I know how good he is, and he totally knows what he’s doing.
“So for me it’s trust in Wenger.”
The team is arguably more settled than it has been for years, and is filled with a number of top quality players. We have seen Wenger and the board loosen the reigns when it comes to spending, with the likes of Mesut Özil and Alexis Sanchez arriving in recent seasons.
We were still lacking a couple of players in key areas heading into the 2015/16 campaign though, with a world class striker and another defensive midfielder unquestionably needed. We ended up only signing Petr Cech however, which Seaman admitted was a little disappointing.
“It’s a great signing, Petr Cech, because it brings quality to the squad, and it brings respect form the other players,” he continued.
“With that being the only signing, it was a little disappointing, but when you look at the quality of the squad it’s still a quality squad.
“He [Wenger] would’ve wanted to have added to the squad, you’ve got to try and take care of injuries. It is hard to deal with, and that’s why you have back up in your squad. For me, I would have been more comfortable had he signed a couple of players.”
With the team struggling for goals, our need for a striker is more notable than ever. And with Francis Coquelin now facing a spell on the sidelines with injury (via ESPN), Wenger may regret not bringing another defensive midfielder to the club as well.

Seaman is right when he says the grass isn’t always greener though, and there aren’t many managers around who could have achieved what Wenger has during his Arsenal career. His time at the club may soon be over, but we need to pick his successor very, very carefully.
