Arsenal legendary goalkeeper David Seaman has called for Wenger to sign 2-3 players this summer and look at altering the wage structure to prevent future stars leaving.
The Gunners are in the market for a top class striker with Gonzalo Higuain heavily linked and Wayne Rooney another top target. A defensive midfielder is also required to add physicality to the heart of the Gunners lineup with agile duo Mikel Arteta and Aaron Ramsey covering defensive roles this season with Abou Diaby again suffering from injuries.
Marouane Fellaini has developed into another top target and could be the answer to Arsenal’s midfield woes as the versatile Belgian can play in both defensive and offensive central positions.
Seaman believes signing players of the trio’s calibre will be enough to give his former side the edge in the title race as they already play fantastic football with a strong squad foundation.
Although he feels Arsenal need to acquire players they must also try their best to hold onto stars they already have which could mean altering Wenger’s ‘socialist’ wage policy.
Seaman told Goal.com:
I think they need just two or three signings and they can challenge for the title.

- Three key players return in major boost for Arsenal vs Villarreal
When Arsenal play at their best, they are very hard to beat.
It is hard when you let your best players go. Maybe [the club] could alter the wage structure [to prevent it].
This summer seems like it will become the beginning of a new era for the Gunners with Wenger looking like he will get out the cheque book. Yes last summer he spent substantially and also has started to hand out substantial wages for stars such as Walcott and Podolski who are earning close to £100k a week, but key players were sold last summer.
This transfer window there should be no key departures but substantial acquisitions. Higuain and Fellaini would be enough to substantially strengthen the squad, while youngster Yaya Sanogo will provide competition for the young, up and coming Arsenal striker Chuba Apkom.
Like Seaman said, it will take at least two signings to lift the Gunners up to the next level to compete with the likes of United and City for the title. They are not in danger of losing any players this summer, however next year will be different if they fail to compete for major honours.
