Thierry Henry is beloved by Arsenal fans, and we always take note of what the Frenchman has to say. Most recently he tipped us for Premier League victory, but on the condition that we complete the signing of his compatriot Karim Benzema from Real Madrid, as reported by talkSPORT.
Henry isn’t always positive about our title credentials, and in the past claimed we wouldn’t be contenders as long as Olivier Giroud was leading the line (via the Daily Mail).
He still believes we are short of options in attack, but now insists that the signing of Benzema would allow us to challenge for the highest honours.
“I always say it’s their year but there is a genuine buzz around the place right now,” he said (via talkSPORT).
“I think they can challenge this year for real if they stay injury-free.
“Giroud alone as a striker there – you can’t win the league, you need another type of striker. I think Giroud is doing really well – he went on to score 14 goals in 18 games, that’s amazing.

“But sometimes you need a different type of striker and I think that if they can get Benzema, suddenly they are a real title contender and also in the Champions League.”
“Yes [I think Arsenal will win the league if they sign Benzema]. But the Champions League is a difficult one.”
We enjoyed a fantastic second half of the season in 2014/15, and our pre-season has been nothing short of phenomenal. We head into the new campaign off the back of a win over Chelsea in the Community Shield, and will be hopeful of further success when the Premier League begins.

Benzema would certainly propel us forward, and we would almost certainly become real title contenders. We are unlikely to see the French forward arrive before our season begins this Sunday however, so for the moment we need to utilise the talent we already have at our disposal.
As the Daily Star reports, we are facing competition from Manchester United for his signature. They too our lacking in striking options, and we need to move quickly if we are to beat them to this marquee signing.
