Paul Merson is part of the camp that believes Jamie Vardy would be ill suited for life at Arsenal, and claims he can’t understand why he’s being linked with a move to north London, as reported by talkSPORT.

The Leicester City striker has been heavily linked with a £20m move to Arsenal over the last few days (via talkSPORT), with Arsene Wenger allegedly activating his release clause and waiting for a decision from the 24-goal forward.
It looks like we’ll be waiting until after the Euros for the conclusion of this transfer story, but Merson clearly feels we should be looking elsewhere for the new striker we so badly need.
“I’m shocked. I’m absolutely flabbergasted with it,” Merson said.
“Arsenal don’t get the ball forward quick enough for Jamie Vardy. No disrespect, but he plays at Leicester where everyone goes and has a go at them.

“Twenty of his goals must have been over the top, balls that he is running on to, beat the goalie and great finish. You play for Arsenal, you kick off and the other team sit ten men behind the ball
“Leicester suits Jamie Vardy, in my opinion. He is perfect for them. They play his way, they get the ball forward very quickly and he will keep on causing havoc. If he goes to Arsenal, I just don’t see it.
“I’m not having a go at Vardy. For what he does, he is different class. But you watch him for England the other night [against Portugal] and if you have got ten players behind the ball… I mean Carvalho looked like Beckenbauer.”
While many were thrilled with the news that Arsenal were set to sign Vardy – which no longer seems as guaranteed as it did over the weekend – Merson certainly isn’t alone in his thinking. Not only do many fans feel that at 29-years-old Vardy is a little too old, but Merson’s sentiment that he doesn’t suit our style has also been echoed many, many times.
Vardy’s main attribute is obviously his pace, so consequently he’s perfectly suited to Leicester’s counter-attacking style. We rarely play that way though, instead relying on slow and steady build up and passing between the lines to break our opposition down.
Arsenal transfer news
It’s very possible that the England international could adapt superbly or we could adapt our play style to suit him, but we won’t know until (or if) he makes the switch to Arsenal.
