With Arsene Wenger currently in his last year of his Arsenal contract, discussion over who should replace the Frenchman is once again a highly debated topic. For Anders Limpar, there is no doubt that Le Prof’s successor should be a club legend, identifying Dennis Bergkamp as the ideal candidate.
A quick look at the odds shows Bergkamp is a long shot to replace Wenger at the helm, even with this bet365 bonus code.
Limpar, a former Arsenal star who spent the bulk of his Highbury days during the George Graham era, is adamant that a manager already familiar with the north London outfit should succeed Wenger when he decides to call an end to his almost 20-year reign.
And Limpar argues that none other than the Arsenal great Thierry Henry would be the perfect assistant for Bergkamp. Speaking to Standard Sport, the Swede said:
“If he goes, when he goes, whether that’s a year or five years, we should probably take an old player. Tony Adams maybe. Or Dennis Bergkamp.
“A lot of old players could take over, but Arsene’s not done yet. When the time comes we should pick a high-profile player.

“Why not Dennis? He’d be great. Take him and Thierry Henry as an assistant. They know the system, they know the club.”
Although many may favor Henry taking up the lead role, the current Belgium national team assistant coach remains inexperienced. Bergkamp, on the other hand, boasts loads of experience having been at the side of Frank de Boer for many years at Ajax.
The Dutchman, who remains with the Eredivisie outfit, has won the league several times in Netherlands and also has Champions League knowledge under his belt as both player and assistant manager.
However, Bergkamp replacing Arsene Wenger hinges on Le Prof vacating the managerial seat at Arsenal not to mention a way around the Dutchman’s inability to fly to games which has always geared his career path away from top-level management and focusing on assisting.
Wenger’s deal expires at the end of this season, but should he show any desire to continue as manager, the Gunners board will likely offer him an extension. Supporters feel that Le Prof’s future depends on this season’s performance. Should the club’s 12-year wait for the league crown continue for another year, a likely outcome given the fierce competition this time around, the Frenchman might be wise to offer someone else a shot at leading the north London outfit.
However, the opposite could well happen depending on the outcome this season. Wenger could be keen on emulating Sir Alex Ferguson – leaving his club on a high by winning the league and thus could postpone an Emirates Stadium exit until he achieves just that.
