There wasn’t much for Arsenal fans to be happy about this past Wednesday evening, with our shocking performance against Dinamo Zagreb seeing us crash to a 2-1 defeat against the apparent minnows of the group.
Club legend Ian Wright was the butt of the jokes early on in BT Sport’s live coverage of the event, with former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker pointing out that he was the only pundit not to have won the Champions League, as reported by the Mirror.
Wrighty responded with incredibly quick wit though, and put his former league rival in his place.
Lineker introduced the panel for the night, highlighting the fact that both Rio Ferdinand and Steven Gerrard had won the Champions League with Manchester United and Liverpool respectively (via the Mirror). He went on to say that Wright had also lifted the trophy, when he walked into the studio and lifted it earlier that night.
As the report reveals though, Wright came straight back with a barb of his own, suggesting that he may have accidentally grabbed the back of Lineker’s head instead – a reference to the player turned pundit’s massive ears.
