Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian duo Taison and Wellington Nem have been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, with the Ukrainian side looking to cash in on both players, according to Italian publication Calciomercato (via the Mirror).
Taison has long been linked with a move away from Shakhtar, with the report suggesting Chelsea have also been showing an interest. Wellington Nem meanwhile, has struggled since making the move to Shakhtar, and the club are apparently desperate to get rid of him.
While the qualities of Nem are certainly questionable – having made just a handful of appearances since joining the club in 2013 – Taison has shown this season that he’s got real talent though, scoring eight goals and assisting 15 times.
It’s difficult to know too much about Nem, as we’ve barely seen him play over the last few years. Taison’s quality isn’t in question, but we’d have to think carefully about where he’d fit in.
He plays primarily as a left-winger, where we’ve used both Alex Iwobi and Alexis Sanchez this season. He could replace the teenager, or Arsene Wenger may look to play him out of position.
It seems questionable that we’d move for both players, and considering Nem’s injury history and the amount of time he’s spent on the bench over the last couple of seasons Arsenal fans probably wouldn’t be thrilled with the transfer – regardless of the fee.
