In one of the more ludicrous stories to come out of the transfer window so far, the Sun are claiming we will attempt to prise Luis Suarez away from Barcelona this summer.
The newspaper state that Arsene Wenger is going to have a huge amount of money to spend come the end of the season, and is reportedly looking to spend all of it on the former Liverpool star.
There are a huge number of reasons why this deal is unlikely to happen, and very few to suggest otherwise.
Firstly, the 28-year-old only moved to the Nou Camp this season, and it is improbable that either he or Barcelona would act so hastily.

- ‘Break club record spend or look elsewhere’ Arsenal told
- Arsenal eye player Lionel Messi claimed to be ‘similar to Xavi’
Secondly, he signed for a whopping £75m, a fee that we would surely not come close to matching. That’s not that far from being double our transfer record.
The Catalan club are unlikely to want to take a huge loss on a player they signed just six months ago, no matter how long he is taking to settle in.
Finally, and possibly the biggest indicator that this deal will never happen, the transfer embargo Barcelona are currently being hit with means they will want to hold onto all their stars. The La Liga giants have no way of replacing Luis Suarez if he leaves, and will surely not want to find themselves with a depleted squad.
We may have famously bid £40,000,001 for the Uruguayan a season and a half ago, but given the brilliant form of Olivier Giroud since his return from injury, and the fact that we signed Danny Welbeck in the summer and will hope to develop him, it’s pretty difficult to see a renewed bid for Suarez.
The controversial striker may have struggled for form this season, and his position at the club may even be somewhat tenuous. Unless there are some drastic changes however, or Arsene Wenger knows something we don’t, then this story is likely to prove nothing more than fantasy.
