Despite a wealth of defensive options already at our disposal, we have apparently put in an €18m bid for Italian defender Daniele Rugani, according to Italian publication Calcio Mercato.

The 20-year-old is a hugely promising young talent, and has been fantastic in Serie A this season. He’s spent the last two years on loan at Empoli, but is owned by Italian champions Juventus.
The report claims we have made an initial bid of €15m, with a further €3m in add ons potentially being paid out.
Juventus already have a solid defence, and Rugani is unlikely to find it easy to break into the side. He may not find it any easier at the Emirates though, so it’s difficult to see this one happening.
Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker, and recent signing Gabriel Paulista are all top quality centre-backs, and Calum Chambers looks like a real star of the future. Rugani has shown glimpses of quality, but there are other areas Arsene Wenger needs to be focusing on before strengthening at the back.
