Arsenal are looking to hijack Manchester United’s reported attempts to land Fernando Llorente this summer as Arsene Wenger seeks to strengthen our forward line, according to reports in Italy (via Sky Sports).
After Louis van Gaal mentioned that he was after a mystery striker who hadn’t been linked with Man United in the press, various reports suggested that he was referring to Llorente (via The Telegraph).
Karim Benzema was rumoured to be our main target, but his agent has poured cold water on any potential move and insisted that his client will remain in Madrid.
“Karim is very happy at Real Madrid and he will be a Real Madrid player by the end of this transfer window, 1,000per cent,” Karim Djaziri told Sky Sports.

Despite our need for a forward, Llorente seems too similar to Olivier Giroud for there to be any truth in the latest links. Juventus have a surplus of strikers following the arrivals of Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic, which makes Llorente’s potential exit understandable.

If we’re to add a striker this summer, surely Wenger is looking to sign a player of true quality and who is a clear upgrade on Giroud. Quite frankly, Llorente isn’t of that calibre.
