Arsenal are looking to make a transfer offer for West Ham defender Winston Reid, according to the latest reports. The player has been scouted several times lately, and the Gunners seem to believe that he is the answer to their problems at the back.
The New Zealand skipper is a solid, dependable centre back and as such is high on Arsenal wishlist. With the injury to Laurent Koscielny, Arsenal are having to play Nacho Monreal as their starting centre back and someone is needed urgently by the club.
And according to the Mirror, the 26-year-old has not yet committed to a new contract at the Boleyn Ground. His current deal comes to an end when this season draws to a close, meaning the Hammers may want to cash in on him before he is available on a free transfer. It all depends on the player and whether he is open to making a January switch.
And getting him cheap is a big bonus for Arsenal, who have a limited transfer budget to play with and need to bring in at least a couple of players to aid with their title challenge.
However, the Hammers are still hopeful of convincing Reid to sign a new deal, and given their fantastic start to the season he may feel the club is moving in the right direction, much like ex Arsenal man and current loanee Alex Song. We shall have to wait and see.

Arsenal have also been handed a blow in their chase of talented young Portuguese winger Goncalo Guedes. The 17-year-old has been promoted to the Benefica first team this season and has impressed in recent outings. He is reportedly being tracked by clubs like PSG, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.
But German champions Bayern Munich have reportedly joined the chase as well, and this could end Arsenal’s hopes of signing the youngster. The Germans are looking at him as a long term replacement for veteran French winger Franck Ribery, who has struggled to find fitness this season.
Bayern are willing to splash the cash and could trigger the player’s release clause in January. This is reported to be in the region of £23 million; and if the bidding does reach that high then Arsenal cannot compete for this player.
