Mario Gotze has looked destined to make a move to Liverpool for quite some time now, but Arsene Wenger is apparently planning to hijack the move and bring him to the Emirates instead, as reported by the Daily Star (via German publication Suddeutsche Zeitung).
Injuries, poor form, and an ill-suited style of football have seen the German international struggle for game time at Bayern Munich, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him leave the club this summer at all. As the report suggests, he’s been linked with a host of other clubs, with Liverpool, Chelsea, Juventus, and even a return to Borussia Dortmund on the cards. We’re definitely in the race though, and if Arsene Wenger is keen on the World Cup winner there’s no reason to think we can’t beat everyone to the punch.
Linking up with Jurgen Klopp again could obviously prove an appealing prospect for the 23-year-old, but there are also plenty of reasons not to choose Liverpool. At the moment they are nowhere near challenging for the Premier League title, and while Leicester have shown you can’t count anyone out of the running, it does seem highly unlikely that the Reds will be all that much closer to a title challenge next season.
They are also currently not in the Champions League, and unless they win the Europa League this season then they won’t be in Europe at all next year. No European competition could be a real turn off for Gotze, who is used to competing among Europe’s elite.

We could certainly offer Gotze Champions League football, and with our current setup he’d surely be a regular starter too. Arsene Wenger is known to be a fan of the versatile young star, and if he can be signed for a bargain fee then the Frenchman will surely move for him.
