Arsenal have made their first move for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin with Frenchman set to depart St Mary’s Stadium this summer, according to ESPN.
Schneiderlin has been one of the names linked with us on a consistent basis and it seems as though Arsene Wenger wants to strengthen the centre of our midfield.
It looked as though Schneiderlin would join the exodus which took place Southampton last summer, but the club refused to sell him and he’s enjoyed a superb campaign, as have his Saints team-mates.
Though he’s set to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, his consistent displays over the past eight months has made him one of the players of the season.

Francis Coquelin has been sensational since his inclusion in the team, but the lack of cover for him makes a move for another destructive midfielder a priority this summer.

Coquelin and Schneiderlin could potentially form a strong partnership too, with their physical presence needed in certain games such as Stoke City away, or against large sides when we need to form a defensive base in midfield.
The last time Wenger built the team around two French powerhouses, in Emmanuel Petit and Patrick Vieira, the outcome was sensational.
Could he do it again…?
