With the transfer window set to open in just 22 days, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given the green light for the club to try and sign Deportivo La Coruña winger Lucas Perez, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The 27-year-old forward has so far had an indifferent career, playing in the Ukraine, Greece, and for Spanish La Liga minnows Rayo Vallecano. He’s currently with Galician outfit Deportivo La Coruña however, where he has caught the attention of Arsenal scouts after netting 10 goals in just 14 games.
Gunners scouts were on hand at the weekend to watch the right-sided winger score in the 1-1 draw with Sevilla, and after submitting their reports, have been told that talks between Arsenal and Deportivo La Coruña will begin immediately for the €6 million rated player (via The Telegraph).
If the interest is true, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would no doubt love to get Lucas on board as soon as possible given the current injuries at the Emirates. However, given the fact Deportivo La Coruña are 6th in La Liga – just three points behind 4th placed Celta Vigo – it might take some hard negotiating on the part of Arsenal to get a deal done in January.
Arsenal transfer news
Despite his impressive form this season, there are question marks over Perez’s suitability for a role at Arsenal. There’s no telling how long this purple patch will last, and our squad is, for the most part, lacking top quality players as opposed to depth. Arsenal fans are hoping to see the arrival of a few world class players over the next window or two, and while Perez has certainly been excellent this season, you certainly wouldn’t call him world class.
