It has been confirmed by Arsenal’s official website that left back Andre Santos will be out of action for approximately three months as he is set to undergo surgery.
The brazilian suffered ligament damage in his right ankle which he sustained in the game against Olympiacos last week, so Santos will have surgery in Brazil this week and is expected to be out for around three months.
This deepens the injury crisis even further for the Gunners who currently are forced to use four centrebacks with four of their first choice left/right backs all out injured. There is light at the end of the tunnel though as Gibbs is set to return very shortly, however with his injury curse he may not last long.
One question remains though, why did Wenger use Santos against Olympiakos? He is by far the unfittest player in the first team and he could quite easily of been rested with Miquel requiring match experience. Let’s just say we are lucky it was Santos not Vermaelen. But best of luck with the surgery Andre.
