The Dutchman has been at the top of his game this season and has deservedly received top accolades for his performances, most recently being the PFA and FWA Player of the Year awards.
Rumours over his departure were naturally exaggerated by the media last week when Van Persie was spotted entering the hotel Barca were residing at before their clash with Chelsea.
The Dutchman publicly stated in response to these accusations that he was only there to catch up with international team-mate and friend Ibrahim Afellay, after all he is allowed a social life outside football.
Barca spokesman Toni Freixa said on Van Persie:
For Barça, any good player is of interest – and van Persie is a great player. But [we have] no intention of signing him for now.
He came to our hotel in London because he is Dutch and so is Ibrahim Afellay. They had a coffee together. He didn’t come to see us and there was no conversation.
It is definitely good news for Arsenal that there is one less interested club out of the race for Robin, particularly a club of Barcelona’s prestige and stature.

As I have always said, it is imperative that the Gunners retain Van Persie for next season if we are going to have any chance of silverware and Arsene will have a job trying to persuade the Dutchman to stay with the likes of Madrid and City lurking.
