Ajax defender and speculated Arsenal target Jan Vertonghen has dropped a huge bombshell regarding a move to North-London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
The highly rated defender has been linked to a number of high-profile clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United and current league leaders Manchester City.
In recent weeks the Belgian has dropped few hints regarding a move to White Hart Lane, but none more revealing than his recent interview with NUsport.
Vertonghen is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying to NUsport:
The board is asking a fair amount for a player who is only contracted for another year. I trust that Ajax and Spurs can turn water into wine and sort it out soon.I owe a lot to Ajax but I have always given my heart and soul.
My appreciation for the club and fans is great and it would be terrible if my farewell was marred by Ajax sticking to a great price.
Of course I want Ajax to gain financially but the amount Tottenham are willing to pay – perhaps with a little extra – is very reasonable.

Tottenham is a fantastic football club. Ajax was the perfect club for me, but Spurs will be very close in nearing that already. They buy young, eager and offensive-minded players.
It is a shame for Arsenal as the highly rated defender would have given Arsenal’s squad much more stability and his versatility would have made him a very useful player in the first-team and at times on the bench.
In saying this though, there is no doubt where his favoured destination lies and it seems only a matter of time before Tottenham and Ajax come to an agreement over the price for his transfer, unless of course it is some elaborate scheme to up his price.
What do you guys think? Do you feel it is a done deal? Or do you think Ajax and Vertonghen are marketing to try and wring out a higher price from a other clubs? Feel free to leave a comment below!
