Wenger confirms Coquelin injury.
Arsenal suffered yet another injury set back during their 2-0 victory over Everton on Sunday after Francis Coquelin sustained a broken nose. The defensive midfielder – who earned his berth into the first team after being recalled from a loan spell with Charlton Athletic – engaged in a nasty head-on collision with fellow Frenchman Olivier Giroud and then Everton midfielder Steven Naismith, breaking his nose in the process.
Arsene Wenger revealed this on Arsenal’s official website shortly after the game stating:
“Yes [he has broken his nose]. I don’t know [how long he will be out], I hope not. I don’t know whether he will need surgery or not.”

[Video & Match report] Arsenal 2-0 Everton: The Gunners return to winning ways after Monaco setback.
After a far from convincing performance against Monaco last Wednesday, Arsenal returned to winning ways by beating Everton 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Emirates. The Gunners took the lead in the 39th minute after French international Olivier Giroud volleyed home from a Mesut Ozil corner.
Tomas Rosicky put the result beyond doubt with 11 minutes left on the clock after his shot took a deflection from Phil Jagielka past the helpless Tim Howard.
Here are video highlights of the goals scored and important moments during the match.
Arsenal player ratings vs Everton.
Arsenal’s below-par performance against Monaco last week in the Champions League was temporarily forgotten thanks to the win over Everton. Although Olivier Giroud and Tomas Rosicky were the goal scorers for the day, the likes of David Ospina and Hector Bellerin registered among the highest ratings in the match with seven a piece.
Ospina bailed out the team on several occasions with timely runs off his line while Bellerin showed more aggression and intent, defending beyond his age to ensure the team registered the clean sheet. Laurent Koscielny and Gabriel proved a blossoming partnership as the pair defended with surety, thus earing a rating of seven too.
Graham lashes out at Wenger on top four finish.
Although former Arsenal manager George Graham has admitted that he expects nothing less than a top four finish at the end of the season, he claims that is no longer satisfactory. Having spent significantly during the summer to improve on the squad, Graham’s frustrations can be understood given that during his tenure, he was able to win seven major trophies with a minimum budget.
“Only Arsene knows the answers but I am sure he knows what he is doing and Arsenal will finish in the top four again this season,” Graham told BBC Radio Five Live (via Goal.com).
“In my mind, though, that is not enough. Arsenal should be among the challengers to win the title.”
The former gaffer does have a point.
