Wojciech Szczesny – who many argue was not at fault for the Wayne Rooney goal – did not have much to do in the match and thus registered a rating of 6. Bar a few fumbles with the ball, the Pole had an ‘okay’ performance. Hector Bellerin earned a needless yellow card within the first five minutes and this made him vulnerable for the rest of the match. Likewise he also earned a rating of 6.
Nacho Monreal registered a Man of The Match performance with some superb defensive play and exciting link up going forward, earning him a rating of 8. Santi Cazorla’s quick feet and fine dribbling skills also earned him a rating of 8.
England international Danny Welbeck – who was chosen ahead of Olivier Giroud – was silent for the most part of the game. However, his predator skills enabled him to pounce on a mistake by Antonio Valencia to score the winner. He, like Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey earned a rating of 7.
Boss hails Welbeck for scoring the winner.
Arsene Wenger has praised Danny Welbeck for scoring the winner at Old Trafford to ensure Arsenal qualifies for the FA Cup semis. Welbeck pounced on a mistake by Antonio Valencia to send the ball past David De Gea in what was the winning goal.
“He has pace and physique and we were able to take that little bit of risk without destroying the balance of our side and overall he had a great game,” Wenger told reporters after the game (via Evening Standard).
“When you play against your former club, we always want to show we are a great player but it is not easy to deal with the mental situation but he did not do anything different to his normal game. He just wanted to win.”
Dat Guy made Louis van Gaal swallow his own words.
Well done Welbz!
