- [Team news] Predicted Arsenal line up vs Villarreal – Six changes expected
- Three key players return in major boost for Arsenal vs Villarreal
Arsenal are travelling to Istanbul tonight to face Besiktas in their crucial qualifier which would place them in the draw for the UEFA Champions League, Europe’s premier club competition.
Here you can read about all of the team news on the site ahead of the clash which takes place on Tuesday, kicking off at 7:45 pm BST at the Vodafone Arena in Istanbul. Kieran Gibbs and Yaya Sanogo will both be out of this leg after picking up knocks on Saturdays dramatic win over Crystal Palace. It is believed that Giroud is back to full fitness and will be ready to start, so Sanogo won’t be a huge miss. It could also be a good game to give Joel Campbell some first team football.
Germans remain at home
For tonight’s game our German trio of Per Mertesaker, Lukasz Podolski and Mesut Ozil will not be included in the squad. This will be good in the long term as they can remain fresh for our away fixture vs Everton on Saturday evening. We had some defensive worries ahead of the game, with Koscielny picking up a problem. This would have resulted in Mertesaker being recalled prematurely. However that will not happen, and Koscielny and Chambers are likely to be starting at centre back. The rest of the predicted line up can be seen here.
Liverpool want Campbell
Arsenal have had an extremely active transfer window with both outs and ins. Joel Campbell is often linked with a move away, with AC Milan often dubbed favourites. However, this mornings reports suggest that Liverpool have attempted to lure the Costa Rican to Anfield. Arsenal have rejected any offer. Wenger earlier this summer stated
He has come from a non-competitive world to a world with hyper-competition. He has adapted slowly, but has adapted very well, he has a very good spirit and attitude.
He is a member of my squad at the moment, He had a good preparation and played well against Benfica.
In training he is very focused and eager to do well. I would like to keep him.
Wenger talks with Rabiot
It is believed that Wenger has his heart set on luring PSG midfielder to Arsenal. His style of play would certainly suit Arsenal, with him liking short passes and using his tireless engine.
