With the transfer deadline fast approaching, this issue will focus on transfers that could be completed before it shuts. The last three deadlines saw Arsenal sign Nacho Monreal, Mesut Ozil and Kim Kallstrom in the last days, so do not rule out the potential for new signings.
Arsenals search for a defensive midfielder had appeared to be over. Wengers comments suggested that he would be playing Wilshere in that role, and we haven’t heard anything about Adrian Rabiot for well over a week now.
However this mornings reports suggest that Arsenal are going to make a move for the Portuguese defensive midfielder William Carvalho. For somebody so young, he is rated very highly by football experts, as he combines the physical aspect of the game with an excellent ability to pass, as well as an uncanny instinct to read the game.
Providing Arsenal pass Besiktas in the Champions League qualifiers on Wednesday night, Arsenal are set to increase their original £20,000,000 offer in order to get their man.

However, conflicting reports also suggest that Arsenal are prepared to fill that midfield void – yet not with Carvalho. The Metro believe that we are going to take advantage of Khedira’s contract running out in order to lure the German away from the Spanish capital.
This rumour is fulled Khedira being left out of the Madrid squad for the Spanish super cup vs Atletico Madrid. Los Blancos are also blessed with midfielders, and the additions of James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos over the summer have only gone to increase the competition in that area.
…and finally
Arsenal are confident of bringing in defensive reinforcements before the window shuts, as talks with Kostas Manolas have gone well. It is believed that a fee has been agreed for around £8 million pounds.
This deal could prove crucial by the time the end of the season comes around. After the sale of Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona, Arsenal are a little short at centre back, however Calum Chambers has deputised well, but Manolas would still be a good addition and add squad depth for the upcoming campaign.
