In today’s news roundup, we have match reports and ratings from yesterday’s game against Chelsea. The Gunners put on an impressive display but were ultimately denied victory thanks to some last ditch defending from Chelsea.
In other news, the PFA Team of the Year was announced; with only one Arsenal player able to make the cut and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken out about in-form striker Olivier Giroud, calling him an ‘animal’. All this and more in today’s roundup.
Arsenal restricted to goalless draw thanks to Chelsea bus
We all knew it was going to happen, but that made it no less frustrating. Yesterday, a fluent and attacking Arsenal side were held to a goalless draw thanks to a strong defensive display by Chelsea. The Blues came to draw; and they succeeded, with the Arsenal forwards able to create quite a few chances but unable to get the finishing touch and secure a psychologically important win.

PFA Team of the Year announced: Only one Gunner makes the cut
The PFA Team of the Year has been announced, with (surprise, surprise) Alexis Sanchez the only Arsenal inclusion. Our summer signing has been in sensational form this season, and is currently the club’s top scorer in all competitions.
He really hit the ground running upon his arrival at the Emirates, and looks tailor made for the Premier League. His seemingly endless energy levels and incredible work rate have seen him become an instant success in the English top flight, and if he can keep it up he has the potential to go down as an Arsenal great.
The Chilean is joined by Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho, Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea, and Southampton new boy Ryan Bertrand. The rest of the team is made up of Chelsea players, with the Blues looking certain to clinch the title this season.

What do you think Gooners? Should some of our other players have been included in the team?
Arsene Wenger praises ‘animal’ Giroud
Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on in form striker Olivier Giroud, and claims the French forward has become a different player over the past season.
Wenger insists his compatriot has fantastic strength, both physically and mentally, which has helped him reach the top at the Emirates:
Olivier Giroud has a fantastic body strength… and sometimes he needed to be challenged really physically to become really that animal he can be.
He has the kind of game which is linked with his back to goal, protection (of the ball), so he gets hit a lot, sometimes that game demands as well more commitment and toughness.
But on the other hand, Olivier Giroud is a player who has improved tremendously technically.
You take some pictures of Olivier Giroud when he arrived, and today he is a different player – let’s not forget this guys is 92kgs, when he walks on your feet, you feel it.
Giroud has been heavily criticised in the past, both by Arsenal fans and neutrals. He has certainly split opinion, but there are very few questioning his credentials at the moment. With the giant target man scoring 18 times in 27 appearances so far this season, he has been playing arguably the best football of his career.
