It was an action packed day for Arsenal yesterday as they finally confirmed the signing of Gabriel Paulista and also extended the contracts of Mikel Arteta and Joel Campbell. A good day at the office.
Here is the news round up.
Arsenal complete signing of Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista
Gabriel Paulista’s move to Arsenal has finally been confirmed, with the Gunners announcing the deal yesterday after the defender secured a work permit. He is technically an excellent defender, who reads the game well and is fast across the ground. The Brazilian will add much-needed depth to the Arsenal back-line and will provide some tough competition to the likes of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny for a spot in the starting line-up. He has played an important part in excellent Villarreal performances against Real Madrid and Barcelona this term, which suggests that facing big-name opponents does not faze him.

Arsenal striker Joel Campbell has penned a new long term deal with the club before being loaned out to Villarreal for the remainder of the season. Campbell has struggled for game time at the Emirates this season after an impressive World Cup with Costa Rica. He has great potential but is not yet ready to lead the line for the Gunners. He was exceptional at times for his country at the World Cup in Brazil but the rigours of the Premier League are a different type of challenge. The first-team experience with Villarreal will ensure Campbell does not stagnate his progress.
Experienced Emirates Stadium star pens new Arsenal deal
Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta has signed a one-year contract extension with Arsenal, according to the midfielder’s agent. The Spaniard has struggled with injury problems throughout the season and has not played for the club since November. His performances on the pitch have dropped but his strong character remains which is a blessing for a team which are on their way up. He is likely to be used for squad rotation and can help Bielik in his development as a defensive midfielder.
Arsenal could lose out on £17m rated defender to Real Madrid
Arsene Wenger is considering lining up a move for Valencia defender Jose Luis Gaya. It’s unclear why Wenger wants to add another left back to his squad considering the fact that the Gunners already have two experienced options in Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal. It will be interesting to see how this one pans out however at present the Gunners are in no particular need for another left back especially as Paulista can also cover there.
Arsenal linked with massive move for Barcelona flop Luis Suarez
Arsenal are reportedly set to launch a shock move for Barcelona forward Luis Suarez. Suarez has always seemed a smart fit for Arsenal as he naturally plays the fast-paced attacking football Wenger loves, but seems a little bizarre considering only joining recently. It’s unlikely that Barca would opt to cash in on Suarez so soon after signing him particularly because the club are currently working through a transfer ban. But this is the team that sold both Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas last summer, so who knows!
Arsenal legend tips Carlo Ancelotti or Thierry Henry to take over at the Emirates
Arsenal legend Robert Pires has tipped club legend Theirry Henry to take over the reigns from Arsene Wenger when he decides to quit. Henry is the greatest player in the history of the club and has proven leadership qualities and charisma of a top European manager. Match that with his unquestionable love for Arsenal, this could be a perfect match.
