It’s only a matter of days now before the transfer window closes and it seems Arsenal are done doing business, but there is plenty of other news to keep you going.
Here is the news round up.
Arsene Wenger plans £15m bid to test Premier League rival’s resolve
Arsenal are set to test Southampton’s resolve over keeping Morgan Schneiderlin by making a move for him at the end of the season. Fans want Wenger to sign him now, but with the re-emergence and rapid development of Francis Coquelin, the French manager is likely to wait until the summer to decide whether the midfielder has what it takes to perform consistently at this level.
Coquelin’s contract expires this summer and if he walks away, Schneiderlin would be a more than a consolation prize. He’s less a dynamic destroyer and more of a steady, smart presence at the base of midfield and in front of the back four.

Danny Welbeck close to Arsenal return as striker resumes full training
Arsene Wenger during his press conference on Friday admitted that Welbeck is in contention to be part of the team which hosts Aston Villa on Sunday. He has been out since the end of last year with a thigh problem and has taken slightly longer to recover than originally expected.
He only has seven goals and four assists in all competitions this season, but it is his general all-round play and selflessness which has found him a place in Arsenal fans hearts this season. His comeback will be a welcome sign for the Gunners and will give Wenger plenty of attacking options to choose from.
Gabriel Paulista reminds me of ex-Arsenal captain claims La Liga expert
Sky Sports pundit and Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has likened Arsenal new signing Gabriel Paulista to former captain Thomas Vermaelen. He is a rugged centre-back in the classic South American style and his physical approach is complimented by plenty of speed. He arrives with a growing reputation after an impressive spell with Villarreal and will provide the Gunners with some much needed depth.
He isn’t a big name signing as he was hardly known before the Gunners interest, but nor was Koscielny when he first arrived, but within two years had established a reputation as one of Europe’s finest centre-halves and the Brazilian will now seek to do the same.
Francis Coquelin signs new Arsenal contract
Midfield enforcer Francis Coquelin has reportedly signed a contract extension with the Gunners, although it is yet to be confirmed officially. The report has been further backed by Arsene Wenger who confirmed in his press conference that the midfielder is 99 percent certain to sign a new contract.

He has been a revelation since his return from Championship side Charlton, most notably during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Manchester City. He was one of Arsenal’s standout players at the Etihad Stadium and deservedly earned the plaudits from fans and pundits alike for his disciplined performance. It is great news for the fans that we now have Coquelin tied up and hopefully he can continue this form for the remainder of the season.
Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere wants to add more goals to his game
Jack Wilshere has admitted that he can’t wait to add more goals to his game as he closes on a return from injury. He has been on the sidelines since damaging ankle ligaments against Manchester United back in November.
His return will certainly be good news for both Wenger and the team as it gives him yet another option and adds another piece to the puzzle that is Arsenal’s midfield. However, it’s difficult to imagine how Wenger plans on fitting everyone in, but it’s certainly a welcomed problem.
[Images] Gabriel Paulista and Krystian Bielik joined by Arsenal legend in training
Arsenal’s new signings Gabriel Paulista and Krystian Bielik have been snapped in training ahead of the Arsenal game with Aston Villa this weekend. The new pair were seen training alongside Arsenal legend Robert Pires, who is currently keeping fit with his former team.
Bielik was not expected to feature for a while, but it seems that Wenger is eager to have him train and develop with the first-team. Paulista is fully available for the weekend and was involved in the training session yesterday as he hopes for a Premier League debut on Sunday. It will be interesting to see whether our new signing will have some part to play this weekend.
It was definitely a good day for Arsenal with Welbeck set to return and Coquelin closing on a new deal. It’s a match day on Sunday, so we may get a chance to have a look at one of our new signings.
Will Paulista start against Villa?
