With the Ballon d’or shortlist being announced recently, I must say there are a few surprising omissions from the prestigious award that does warrant some criticism.
No doubt Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny thinks similarly voicing his opinion on what is arguably the most surprising omission of Robin van Persie, labelling the snub ‘ridiculous’.
The Arsenal number one told Sky Sport News on the situation when learning of the Dutchman’s omission:
I think it’s ridiculous [he’s not on the Ballon d’Or shortlist] – he’s probably got the best goalscoring record at the moment.
We know how good he is – even at Chelsea when they equalised late on, we still felt like we were going to go on and win. He just came up with two goals right at the end, and I believe he is at the moment the best striker in the world.
Even a neutral fan would have to agree that not including the Dutchman is a crazy call after boasting 28 goals in 27 league appearances in 2011. Not even the likes of David Villa has the same conversion rate with service from the likes of Xavi and Iniesta. A joke in all honesty. Has FIFA been even watching football the last 12 months? What do you guys think? Is RVP’s omission warranted or not? Feel free to leave a comment below.
