Arsenal’s talisman and captain Robin van Persie has been in the form of his life in 2011 and proved it last week by passing the 30 goal mark for this calendar year.
His brace at the weekend made him the fifth player in the history of the Premier League to score 30 goals in a calendar year making FIFA’s decision to not shortlist him for the Ballon d’Or a foolish choice.
The Dutchman sits in third with 31 goals this calendar year behind arguably two of the best strikers the Premier League has ever seen in Alan Shearer and Arsenal great Thierry Henry.
Henry recorded 34 goals in 39 matches in 2004 while Alan Shearer recorded 36 goals in 42 matches in 1995. While Van Persie has only played 29 matches this year so far, with seven Premier League games to play you wouldn’t put it passed him to eclipse Henry at least.
Like every Arsenal fan I am hoping the Dutchman continues his great run of form and re-signs with the gunners. He has been integral to Arsenal’s success and seems to be relishing the style of play Arsenal employ with the likes of Gervinho, Walcott, Arteta and Ramsey all ready to support to him!
