Arsene Wenger has admitted for the first time that his 15-year spell as Arsenal manager could well be coming to an end soon. He gave a recent interview with L’Equipe and revealed the Frenchman’s indecisiveness over his future.
With the Gunners failing to gain silverware in six years, many question marks have remained over the future of Wenger, but the French mastermind has managed to turn the season around drastically which adds hope to Gunners fans that this season will produce a trophy. Despite the change in fortunes, Wenger has admitted that his future will be decided at the end of the season, but he has done little to quell thoughts of his eventual departure occurring next summer.
He told L’Equipe:
We’ll look at things at the end of this one.
No. For me we’re now talking short-term, it’s obvious.
But whether it’s with me or someone else, it changes nothing. My successor needs foundations on which he can be successful.
[on the loss of Fabregas and Nasri] For the first time I lost young players, who were reaching maturity. I suffered. It’s painful to lose key men you have invested a lot in.

[Bad results] broke the squad. I often call it “the season of the last minute”.
The last thing Gunners fans need is doubt cast over their manager, however the Frenchman must have developed a number of grey hairs after a disastrous start to the season, so it is understandable that he may well ‘hang up his …notepad?’ at the end of this season. But it is important that the Arsenal camp doesn’t become unsettled by this, and Arsenal fans do not to.
It is also positive to see Wenger ‘suffered’ from the loss of Fabregas and Nasri because many of us have felt that pain too, it was detrimental to the Gunners title hopes this season, however it has been the start of a new era which will bring with it fresh faces but still extraordinary football.
