Having only recently stated that Arsenal were finally prepared to spend big and possibly bring in two new signings owing to stadium debt finally being paid off, it seems he is now somewhat played down chances of it happening.
The news will certainly won’t come as surprise too many Arsenal fans who have certainly heard this kind of talk in previous transfer windows, although Wenger has still stated that Arsenal are working hard to try bring in the right players.
Wenger is quoted a saying on Arsenal.com:
We are working very hard.
First of all we want to sort out the injuries we have, and we are trying very hard to close the deal with Walcott. Once we have done that, we will certainly do something else. At the moment I cannot tell you more.
It has become more difficult [to buy players in January] for one simple reason: we have a good squad. I know we swim against the stream a bit because people don’t believe that. I say we have a very good squad.

But we have some improvements to make and we know exactly where. In January it is difficult to find the players that are really better and can give something special to the squad. The number is right, we have a good balance and we are working very hard to find what we want.
The general consensus of Arsenal fans certainly points to the fact Arsenal need a recognised striker and defensive midfielder, an opinion I completely agree with.
Wenger’s statement regarding that the squad is very good I think is false. You only have to look at the table to see that this squad needs improving. Hopefully he proves us wrong and does bring in a couple of good quality signings, but I am not counting my chickens.
What do you guys think? Is it a case of same old story or will Wenger finally prove he is ready to sign big? Feel free to leave a comment below!
