It is common knowledge that Van Persie, Wenger and Arsenal Chairman Ivan Gazidis held formal talks to try thrash out a contract extension before Euro 2012, but it was reported to have ended in a stalemate.
With Van Persie’s future in uncertain for now, the media have been having a field day and have reported over recent weeks that Premier League rivals Manchester City and Serie A giants Juventus are the strongest contenders for his signature.
I terms of both options,Van Persie senior has publicly stated that a move to the Etihad would be impossible while Wenger has stated that a move to Serie A would be out of the question with the Frenchman essentially labeling it a second-rate league.
Wenger is quoted saying by SkySports on the future of Van Persie and the possibility of a move to Juventus:
He will stay at Arsenal.
There is no reason why a top player, a big champion would want a move to Serie A – in terms of the prestige of the league, the level of play or financial considerations.

If he moves there, I will buy you a caramello.
While Wenger has been wrong in the past, namely on the departures of Fabregas and Nasri, I am definitely inclined to believe his reasoning on this occasion.
Personally I feel Van Persie has been holding out to ensure that Arsenal show some initiative in the transfer window and sign some world-class players to challenge for the title next year, an opinion expressed by many Gooners including former great Freddie Ljungberg.
So far it has worked, with Lukas Podolski already officially signed and Ligue 1 top-scorer Olivier Giroud virtually guranteed to follow. The last piece of the puzzle seems to be Rennes’ solid defensive midfielder Yann M’Vila who has already publicly stated his interest in both Arsenal and the Premier League.
