Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has responded to Nasri’s attack on Arsenal fans where he said Arsenal should ‘celebrate their third-place achievement and I will focus on winning titles’.
The Frenchman moved to Manchester at the start of this season where many Arsenal fans dubbed him a mercenary after his £24m transfer which effectively doubled his wages.
In the wake of Nasri’s comments, Wilshere was not one to shy away and hit back in a interview with The Guardian saying that he hopes in the future Arsenal can ‘rub it in his face’ when they get a trophy.
Wilshere said to The Guardian:
I don’t know what goes on in his head. Fair play, he has won a trophy, but over the next couple of years our goal is to win a trophy and I can see us winning a trophy.
Maybe he spoke too soon and hopefully we can rub his face in it next year.
He also went on to discuss the importance of retaining Van Persie saying:
It’s important we keep him. Everybody knows what he brings to the team and also in terms of his leadership qualities. I think getting third place will help us do that.
I know there are contract talks this week and I hope we can keep him in the team.
Looking a Manchester City, personally I think it is a shame that clubs such as these can just buy their reputation. It is definitely effective, but requires much less skill and planning. Hopefully the new financial fair play rules can stifle this kind of purchased success in the future.
