With Arsene Wenger’s inactivity over the summer, we’re still badly in need of attacking reinforcements. Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato has recently been linked with a move to North London, and has apparently been offered to us by current club Corinthians, as reported by The Evening Standard.
Pato was once one of the most promising young strikers in world football, and when he made the move to AC Milan in 2007 he looked set to take Europe by storm.
He was excellent initially, and was Milan’s top scorer in 2008-09. But his career was marred by injuries from then onwards, and he never fully recovered. He suffered a number of niggling injuries that kept him out of action, as well as a few long term injuries over the next few years.
He never really recovered, and eventually made the move back to his homeland. He joined Brazilian side Corinthians, but wasn’t hugely impressive there either. He has since been loaned out to Sao Paulo where he has enjoyed slightly more success, and at 26-years-old is looking to rejuvenate his career.
We have apparently been offered the chance to sign him for around £11m (via The Evening Standard), a relatively low fee that may pique Arsene Wenger’s interest.
Most Arsenal fans would probably be disappointed if we signed Pato, as it shows a real lack of ambition. We really don’t need another injury prone player in the squad, and Pato is far from the player he was five or six years ago.

If he was setting the Brazilian league alight with his performances things may be a little different, but he’s been distinctly average since his return home.

Pato is apparently keen on a return to Europe, but hopefully Arsenal won’t be the team to grant his wish. The report also claims he has been offered to Liverpool and Tottenham, clubs that seem far more his speed in all honesty.
