Arsenal are now facing reports that they are no longer the frontrunners to sign Lyon’s impressive midfielder Houssem Aouar in the upcoming January transfer window.
The Evening Standard via a report in Italy is claiming that Juventus are the favourites to sign the playmaker, with the lure of Champions League football set to win the day.
Arsenal appeared to be the only club making efforts to entice Aouar towards the back-end of the summer transfer window and instead opted for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey. That delay in pushing for the Lyon star is set to open up the number of clubs after his signature.
While Juventus are now apparent favourites, Paris St-Germain are also keen to add the talented Frenchman to their ranks alongside his fellow countrymen in Kylian Mbappe, Presnel Kimpembe, Layvin Kurzawa and Abdou Diallo.
A lot may depend on whether or not Arsenal can move on Mesut Ozil in the coming months to free up wages and additional finances to fund the transfer of Houssem Aouar.
