According to outlandish reports in the Daily Star, Arsenal are plotting a £63m double swoop on Borussia Dortmund for Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan.
We are in desperate need of a new centre-back and defensive midfielder and German international duo Hummels and Gundogan would fit that bill perfectly.
However, as they are regarded as top-class players – despite Dortmund’s woes in the Bundesliga this season – they will have price-tags to reflect that.
Hummels would certainly be a brilliant addition, with the 26-year-old having helped Germany to World Cup glory in the summer of 2014 and is regarded as one of the best defenders in world football currently.
With Calum Chambers, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker the only natural central defenders at the Emirates Stadium currently, more competition is needed at the back.

There would be more of a question mark over Gundogan however, as although the 24-year-old is undoubtedly a fine player, he is more of a box-to-box midfielder than a defensive one.
As well as this the Dortmund star spent the best part of a year out of action with a back injury, only returning this season, and what effect that has had has not yet been fully determined.
