According to the Express, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is plotting to make a double buy from the Catalan giants in January. A lot of Barca players have found their way to Arsenal over the years, with the most recent success story being the lethal Alexis Sanchez. And continuing in that same vein, Wenger plans to bid for the services of both Spanish international Pedro and Brazil defender Dani Alves.
Pedro, who was a summer target for Manchester United and Liverpool, is looking for regular first-team football after falling behind the likes of Luis Suarez and Munir El Haddadi in the Nou Camp pecking order, which means that he hardly gets a game anymore. However, the player admitted that he is willing to tough it out at Barcelona as well, so Wenger needs to be firm if he wants the player.
The coach is giving me a lot of confidence and he speaks to me even though I’m not getting in the team.
I know it’s hard to play at Barcelona, so I will continue to give my all and do well.
Meanwhile defender Dani Alves has made it clear that he will be leaving come the New Year after he had a falling out with new manager Luis Enrique.
The defender is a very experienced player, having won a large number of trophies with Barcelona and also featuring regularly for Brazil. His immense experience will be an asset for the team and he could help tutor the likes of Chambers and Bellerin. However, he is a defender who loves to go forward, which might not be the best thing for the Arsenal side, who have enough weaknesses at the back as it is.
If Wenger chooses to go through with the inquiry, then Arsenal must be considered favourites to sign the player, but local rivals Tottenham Hotspur are not far behind, with reports in the Metro claiming that the Spurs are willing to offer £7million for Alves’ servies.
