Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere praised our fitness staff after the team put on an impressive display to dismantle Everton in the Barclays Asia Trophy final, the midfielder told Arsenal Player.
Despite this being only our second pre-season friendly – just as it was Everton’s – we seemed to be much sharper than our Premier League rivals with the players first to every second ball.
Wilshere has put this down to the work of our fitness staff, who specifically tailor preparations for each position and the results are evident.

“I’m feeling good,” Wilshere reassured fans.
“I’ve been back in training for two weeks now. I’ve played two games and there are another two games coming up next weekend after another tough week of training, so I’m feeling good.”

“The fitness staff here are really good. They make the sessions individualised, so they know what you need in your position.”
Wilshere started his second game in succession and played the opening half from the right-wing, a position he may have to get used to with the competition we currently have in central positions.
Arsene Wenger partnered Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla in the two midfield positions and while we were technically perfect in possession, the lack of a specialist holding midfielder was visible on a few occasions.
However, it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that the boss chooses to start with that midfield against West Ham United in our opening Premier League fixture.
