Ezequiel Garay has been a long term transfer target for Manchester United, but we are looking to snipe the Argentine centre-back, according to the Express.
Currently on international duty for the Copa America, the 28-year-old has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Premier League. Instead he made a somewhat surprising move to Zenit St Petersburg last summer however, making the switch from Benfica for just £4m (via the Express).
The same report suggests that he very quickly grew unhappy with life in Russia, with the South American star looking for a move away from the club as early as January. For the right price we could rescue the experienced defender, as he still boasts plenty of quality. The reported £13m (via the Express) seems a little steep, but he would certainly be a solid signing.
Defensive deficiencies and a lack of depth have often been our downfall in the past, but it’s not something we are really suffering from at the moment. With Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker forming a solid partnership, and Gabriel Paulista and Calum Chambers looking to force their way into the side, Garay really shouldn’t be a priority.
We have never been known for our luck with injuries however, so should we be looking to invest in another senior defender?
