Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of William Carvalho with Sporting Lisbon agreeing to reduce their asking price for the midfielder, according to reports in Ojojo.
The Gunners have been strongly linked with the youngster this summer with some reports even suggesting that we have had a £20 million bid rejected by Sporting. The 22 year old has a whopping £37 million release clause written into his current contract, but it seems the Primeira Liga giants are now willing to accept bids below that valuation.
The report states that Sporting Lisbon are in deep talks regarding the transfer of Carvalho and their president Bruno de Carvalho has made it known he’ll accept bids of almost half than the midfielder’s buyout clause.
It further states that Sporting have asked about the possibility of taking at least one player on loan as part of the deal with Yaya Sanogo, Francis Coquelin, Serge Gnabry and Ryo Miyaichi all named as possibilities.
The Portugal international has attracted additional interest from Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho, but the Gunners chief is confident he can convince the player to move to north London.

Key Stats: (Via Squawka)
His club form was rewarded with a call-up to the Portugal World Cup squad and despite the countries lacklustre efforts in South America, Carvalho was very impressive. He had an astute pass accuracy of 90%, misplacing just ten passes and attempted 16 tackles at the World Cup for his national side, winning seven of them which represented a success rate of 44%. His reading of the game is developing and he has controlled his tendency to commit one too many fouls.
Style of Play:
He is predominantly a defensive midfielder who has remarkable composure on the ball, as well as his anticipation, agility and power in breaking up opposition attacks being among his strengths. He is physically dominant in the middle and is a fierce tackler who never shies away from a battle. He has a knack for finding men out wide with accurate lofted passes, as well as keeping it simple along the floor.
Should we Buy?
Carvalho is a powerhouse defensive midfielder who is capable of providing an anchoring presence that allows more creative talents to flourish. He would be a far more suitable acquisition for Arsenal than Khedira, who is more of a box to box midfielder.
He has a bright future ahead, and although unproven at the top-level, his forcefulness and power would strike fear into opponents. He would be more akin to former Gunner Gilberto Silva, whose defensive discipline earned him the nickname The Invisible Wall. He is a huge talent and he’d be an excellent signing for the club, so hopefully we will be able to thrash out a deal before the window closes.
