Arsene Wenger is keen to add reinforcements in midfield this summer, and is apparently plotting a £20m bid for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, as reported by the Metro.

As the report reveals, Wenger has been a long term admirer of the German playmaker. He looks to be on his way out of Dortmund though, with the Bundesliga side struggling this season and failing to even get Champions League football ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
We are facing competition from Manchester United and Bayern Munich (via the Metro), so we need to move fast if we want to secure his signature.
He is an excellent player, but doesn’t seem like the kind of player we need. We are well stocked with playmakers and box-to-box midfielders, but are crying out for more of a defensive midfielder.
We already struggle to fit Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, and Jack Wilshere into our starting XI, but would be left in the lurch if Francis Coquelin were to suffer an injury.
