Our pursuit of Karim Benzema is well documented, with Arsene Wenger known to be a fan of the French forward. And the manager is allegedly planning to make a new and improved bid imminently, with Real Madrid bracing for a £40.5m bid, as reported by the Metro.
As the report suggests, we have already made a £30.3m offer for the striker – which has been rejected. The Metro claims we then upped our offer to £35.3m, which has seemingly also been rebuffed.
Wenger clearly wants to do everything in his power to bring his compatriot to the Emirates however, with a £40.5m bid expected imminently (via the Metro).
We have built an excellent squad, and our superb pre-season showed we are in confident mood ahead of the 2015/16 campaign. We could arguably challenge for the title even without additions, but Benzema would unquestionably help us in the push for the highest honours.
Arsenal transfer news
We may have to wait until nearer the end of the transfer window to find out whether we can expect a marquee signing’s arrival, as Wenger is known for getting his business done late.
- Arsenal told ‘no less than £50m’ for top defensive transfer target
- Arsenal keen to sign 16th best ranked Premier League stopper
- Arsenal keeping tabs on €40m Italy star after ‘outstanding’ season
A few more weeks of nail biting would all be worth it if Benzema is eventually unveiled though, so hopefully there is some truth in the rumours.
