Arsenal ready final bid for Alvaro Morata

Arsenal are reportedly readying their final bid for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata who is all but set to leave the Spanish capital this summer, according to reports in the Daily Express.

The 21 year old, who is regarded as one of the brightest prospects of Madrid, has failed to establish himself along the striking hierarchy despite scoring just nine goals in 34 appearances this season.

The report states Arsenal and Tottenham are preparing last minute bids for the young Real Madrid star after Juventus launched a final offer of around £16 million for his services. The Italian giants are keen on landing the striker and believe they are in pole position after including a £20 million buy-back clause in the deal.

However, it further states that Arsenal and Spurs are keen to bring Morata to the Premier League and are ready to match Juventus bid for the striker. Wenger has asked about his availability on more than one occasion in the past six months, but is understandably unwilling to have the buy-back clause and wants a straight cash deal, but won’t stretch beyond a final offer of £16 million.

The Spaniard is quick, strong and his ability to get goals from the bench would be very welcome at Arsenal. He has proved to be lethal in front of goal at youth level and during the limited first team chances he’s had with Real Madrid. He also has the physical capabilities to back up his technical skill, which could make him a fine fit for the Premier League.

There is no doubt that he is a very talented striker with a lot of potential, but do we really want to be spending millions of pounds on an youngster who hasn’t proven himself yet on the big stage? His big money signing would mean that we probably might not sign another striker, leaving us with Giroud and three young strikers in Sanogo, Campbell and Morata, which is well short of the other Premier League partnerships.

He has a similar style to Giroud which means that he won’t get into the starting line-up straight away and will most probably used as a back-up for a season or two – it doesn’t make sense to spend close to £20 million on a back-up. If we can get him for cheaper then go for it, but players like Alexis Sanchez and Jackson Martinez are more appropriate targets.
