Arsenal have reportedly received an offer from Athletic Bilbao for Nacho Monreal – believed to be in the region of €8million – as the La Liga side aim to lure the defender back to Spain, MARCA reports.
As the report says, Monreal joined us in January 2013 from Malaga. He signed a four-and-a-half year deal which expires in 2017, and Arsene Wenger’s resolve is set to be tested once again.
The Spanish full-back has grown considerably as a player this season, and has become one of our most important stars after displacing Kieran Gibbs in the first XI.
Arsenal transfer news
As Wenger keeps stressing, we are no longer in a position where we have to sell our players, and any potential sale of Monreal would be entirely our choice.
Considering that the boss recently confirmed that all the players want to remain at the club, Monreal’s departure would presumably depend on whether we could get a better player in to replace him.

“All of our players want to stay here,” Wenger said last week (via the Mirror).
MARCA are usually a reliable source exclusively for Real Madrid, which makes the validity of these reports rather doubtful.
Monreal has become a crucial player for us in recent months and must remain at the club. After a shaky start, few defenders in the Premier League have been more consistent in this calendar year.
