Morgan Schneiderlin has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal for years now (via the Express), but it looked recently like we had given up hope of signing the Frenchman. A report from The Telegraph claims Manchester United have had a £20m bid rejected though, which has prompted Arsene Wenger to reignite his interest.
The Telegraph’s report claims Southampton are hoping to get closer to £25m for their midfield general, a sum which both Arsenal and Manchester United seem unwilling to match.
A defensive midfielder is high on our list of priorities this summer, with Francis Coquelin currently our only option in that role. Schneiderlin would be an excellent acquisition, but there are arguably other targets who could perform just as well – potentially for a lower fee.
Arsene Wenger is unlikely to want to get into a bidding war for the player, but we can’t afford to wait around if we are to have any hope of signing him. He would unquestionably add something to our current side, and we should be chasing top quality if we want to compete for top honours.
