Arsenal reportedly rejected the chance to sign West Ham United’s impressive teenager Reece Oxford in December when the midfielder celebrated his 16th birthday, The Telegraph reports.
Oxford put in a remarkable performance at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday which completely defied his age, similar to the time we first laid our eyes on Wayne Rooney.
Whether or not he develops into an elite player certainly cannot be concluded after one game, but it was hard not to be in awe of the maturity he showed for large parts of the match.
When asked about Oxford after our shock defeat, Arsene Wenger was certainly in no mood to shower praise on an opposition player.
“He looked convincing – they did well,” the boss said rather reluctantly.

It seems as though we’re consistently the cause of bright young talents emerging and Sunday’s result may well be the springboard for Oxford’s career.
Also, a number of our players must question themselves as to how a 16-year-old, despite his impressive physical stature, was able to dominate the midfield with such ease.
