Arsenal are reportedly watching Atletico Madrid striker and Liverpool target Diego Costa as he continues to impress with the Spanish side, according to reports in Daily Star.
The Brazilian star scored his 12th goal of the season against Granada this week to leapfrog Cristiano Ronaldo as the league’s top goal scorer and is once again being linked with a Premier League switch.
The 25 year old has revealed that he nearly joined Liverpool in the summer, admitting it was his loyalty to the Spanish club that prevented a move to the Reds.
However the report suggests that the Gunners are keeping a close eye on the Brazilian and could move for the goal scoring striker in the January transfer window. He is thought to be valued at around £30 million by the high flying La Liga side.
The report has been backed by the claims of well respected journalist Rafael Hernández who claimed that Arsenal have made an inquiry into the availability of Costa. He said:
So yes, it’s true: Arsenal is interested in Diego Costa. He’s valued around €25 m, Atlético Madrid rumored to rate him at least €35 m.
The forward was born in Lagarto, on the East coast of Brazil and grew up playing beach football until he was signed up by Portuguese side Braga at the age of 17 and was immediately loaned out to FC Penafiel, where he made 13 appearances, scoring 5 times. He signed for Atletico Madrid in 2007 but was immediately loaned back to Braga for the rest of the season.
He then spent loan spells at Celta Vigo and Albacete before being sold to Valladolid in 2009 and despite his good start for the club, they were relegated from La Liga – he finished with 7 goals in 24 appearances. He was taken back to Atletico Madrid, and after a bad knee injury, played a brief loan spell at Rayo Vallecano, where his career came alight, scoring 9 times in 16 appearances. But since his return to Madrid he has been immaculate in front of goal.

The Brazilian has the pace, strength and the aerial ability to dominate opponents. He can control the ball, he can run with it and he can obviously shoot, head and volley. He is well built and tends to drop into the midfield to get the ball and then look to supply to his other fellow forwards.
It is evident that Arsenal need a striker and Costa would be an excellent addition. His physicality will be perfect for the Premier League and he would also adds versatility as he can also play on the wing and behind the striker. He would definitely add flair, finesse and fight to the Arsenal attack if we manage to sign him.
Wenger recently praised the in-form hit man, but whether he will be able to spend another large chunk of cash again after forking out on Ozil remains to be seen. However the money is there and available, so the Frenchman just needs to do it.
Sign him up Wenger!
