The Gunners have made a move in the past for want-away Anderlecht defender Cheikhou Kouyate according to the player, but nothing has eventuated yet.
The 23-year-old will depart the Belgium side this summer and has earmarked Arsenal as a side he admires but refused to disclose his next destination.
The Senegalese international told Sky Sports:
I like Arsenal because they play good football. There have been enquiries before, but nothing happened.
I do not want to say where I am going, but this will be my last season with Anderlecht.
Until I leave, I will continue to give 100 per cent.
The highly rated centre back impressed at the London Olympics last year and has been heavily scouted by the Gunners. He is comfortable in possession which is a prerequisite for Wenger’s passing game, has aerial presence and can be used as a defensive midfielder.

A host of English clubs were interested in the five time capped Senegal international last summer and European heavyweights in the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Zenit St Petersburg and Anzhi Makhachkala are also said to be monitoring the 23-year-old.
There are a few reasons why this deal may never eventuate. Firstly the Gunners already have three regular international centre halves and two highly rated youngsters that are chomping at the bit for first team action. Secondly there were reports in the summer suggesting the youngster would find it hard to gain a work permit for England much like our on-loan striker Joel Campbell, this reportedly was to blame for Arsenal failing to pursue the defender.
For Arsenal it seems the centre back pairings are starting to come together, however in the near future the aging Mertesacker will need to be replaced and in Song’s absence Arteta has struggled to provide the defensive brute which is much needed in the Arsenal midfield. If the Gunners scouts are convinced of Kouyate’s ability, even as a defensive midfielder, then purchasing him this summer and loaning him back to Anderlecht should he fail to gain a working permit would be a wise option.
